Continuum of Care, Inc.’s mission is to enable people who are challenged with mental illness, intellectual disability, and/or co-occurring substance use disorder, to rebuild a meaningful life and thrive in the community.
Veterans Recovery Support Program
"I will be eternally grateful for the assistance and support given to me while at Continuum of Care. The staff is exemplary." - T.D.
It is well documented that our country's veterans are underserved and very much impacted by mental health and substance abuse disorders.
Continuum’s Veterans Recovery Support Program is a collaborative effort with the Veterans Administration (VA). Qualified veterans who have experienced a mental health crisis, (such as severe PTSD, depression, etc.) are admitted to the VA Hospital. Then, together, Continuum and the VA provide crisis stabilization, housing, outpatient clinical care, and day services as a short-term alternative to psychiatric inpatient care.
The power of our program is that, while the veterans attend the VA for clinical treatment and services daily, they return back to live in Continuum’s supportive home and receive additional therapy, case management, peer support, and other assistance and services to help each veteran prepare to successfully return to community living with appropriate housing, healthcare, psychiatric services, and other supports needed for ongoing recovery and successful living.
As a result of Continuum’s existing program, 95% of our veterans complete the program and achieve access to housing and ongoing community resources.
Continuum’s community based mental health residential crisis services for veterans is the only one of its kind in the United States.
Our Program Offers:
- Comfortable, home-like environment
- 24-hour staffing
- Recovery support groups
- Intensive case management
- Person-centered planning
- Treatment collaboration with area providers
- Linkages to transitional & independent housing
- Daily psychoeducational & recreational groups & activities
- 10-30 days length of stay
Because results of our current Veterans Program has been so successful, the VA has asked Continuum to expand our existing services (basically replacing their Next Steps Program), by implementing a new program to serve 18 veterans at a time. This would mean more than 200 additional veterans would benefit from our new services annually. Further, Continuum’s residential treatment program for veterans with mental health and co-occurring substance use disorders would represent the only community-based residential treatment program of its kind in the nation. We have an existing house that is empty and currently undergoing some renovation. The expanded program in this house will be ready to open in the Fall of 2021, and we are seeking startup costs to furnish and supply the new house.
