“Where there is love, there is life.” – Mahatma Gandhi

2020 is the first year we aren’t immediately responding back "good" when someone asks “how are you?”

What a year of constant upheaval, uncertainty, compromise, isolation, loss, and the need to learn new ways to cope! It’s been tough, and I hope you are doing okay through it all.

This thorny journey has been even more treacherous for individuals who already struggle with anxiety, depression, and isolation, as well as for individuals with intellectual disorders (including autism).  Many are desperate for a sense of normalcy, continuity, and a safe living environment; especially since they already have a history of homelessness, hospitalization, or institutionalization, and they are vulnerable to relapse and decline.

Thank goodness for three things that have remained constant for our clients – safe and comfortable home environments, continuity of services to keep them moving forward (albeit adjusted for social distancing), and exceptional dedication and care provided by Continuum’s direct care staff.

According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, 1 in 3 people in the U.S. are reporting symptoms of anxiety and depression as a result of COVID-19 and the economic downturn. The demand for clinical services has skyrocketed.  Further, nearly 1 in 6 children born today are diagnosed with a Developmental Disability or Autism Spectrum Disorder.  During COVID-19, protection, virtual connection, and creating a continuous sense of normalcy has been critical to their wellbeing.

Our tireless workers keep them safe, healthy, and connected to all that they need during these trying times.

Yet, our clients urgently need your support this holiday season. We cannot do it alone.  We must maintain the high quality and continuity of services and care amidst exorbitant expenses imposed by costly PPE and sanitization services, full staffing, and extra equipment to help clients stay connected to friends, family, and essential life-giving services and therapies.

Undoubtedly, it has been a tough year for you.  But, perhaps you’ve also seen what I’ve seen. Adversity often brings out the best in people.  It reminds us of what is most important in life – love, health, basic needs, and doing good.

The goodness of your support (no matter the size) will help us afford much needed supplies and equipment to protect and maintain our clients’ wellbeing and basic needs during these very threatening times still to come.

Thank you, and please stay well.
